Welcome back to YKC. I'd like to connect with my readers... connect with me here on LinkedIn, and drop me a line on what kind of content you'd like to see featured in future editions.
For those attending Tech Week in New York early next month, this is a good calendar of events: 2024 Official Tech Week Calendar.
LinkedIn Ghostwriting: As many of you may know, I've spent the past few years immersing myself in the world of LinkedIn. Given this, I've been offering LinkedIn ghostwriting services, and have been helping founders, investors, and executives amplify their voice, share their expertise, and build their personal brand online.
If this service is something that you (or someone you know), would be interested in exploring further, I'd love to set up a time to chat. To set up a time to speak just click here.
“Productivity is being able to do things that you were never able to do before.”

Slow Productivity: The Lost Art of Accomplishment Without Burnout by Cal Newport: Whenever I read about the “slow” movement… I cringe at the thought of anti-capitalist European politics, or college protestors virtue signaling. Though this book is inspired by some aspects of the slow movement, it is not political in nature… but about creating one’s most meaningful work. And while the author alludes to this numerous times in the book, and offers suggestions, this book is probably most useful for people who have more control of their schedule.
One of the author’s earlier books, Deep Work, covers the fact that we can really only do 3-4 hours of meaningful deep cognitive work a day… and I can’t overstate how important this concept is. Regarding virtue signaling, the opposite of deep work is being “busy” all the time, and telling people about it when they ask how you are. Like the default New York response… meaning one does not have control of their time. But that does not mean you are doing your best work. We all have projects which will move the dial for us professionally. And this author takes the perspective that in order to do so, we need to buck a lot of the useless social conventions about how we are able to accomplish our best work (and drown out the noise of non-stop hustle culture), by creating space and time to create something meaningful. Especially today, with AI, there are plenty of tools to take care of meaningless tasks, so we can instead concentrate on putting something we’re proud of into the world.
What I do like about the author’s approach is that he is laser focused on doing what is right, not what is popular. He does manage to thread that needle when working with other people, who may have a different agenda then you. We have a duty to produce our best work, but ultimately, it is on ourselves to do what we need to do. As summer is approaching, it could be a good time to think and plan about how time off may help in pressing the reset button, or diving into a period of inspired meaningful work.
